• If the employee has already been scheduled for the shift, then the employee will be held accountable for the shift. The shift will count as an absence even if the employee calls out 24 hours in advance. Only scheduled and pre-approved PTO, sick leave and vacation time and absences that qualify as a reasonable accommodation or Leave of Absence will be regarded as excused.
  • Managers are encouraged to be flexible with the needs of their employees. Managers should ask their employees the reason for requesting time off. Take into consideration if it is an important event such as a medical reason, family reunion, wedding, or other critical dates.
  • If it is a busy time and staffing requirements are critical, a decision to allow employees to miss a shift will need to be made.
  • Managers, the key is flexibility. Partner with the employee to come up with a resolution and identify other employees who may be able to cover their shift.
  • All employees should keep an up to date Availability Form filled out and on file at the facility/workplace.
  • Paid time off (PTO), sick leave or vacation time may be deducted for absenteeism or tardiness at the discretion of the employee and the employee's manager.
