Best Practices for Reporting Tardiness or Absence

  • Employees who know they cannot make it into work or will be late, must call their manager or supervisor on duty as soon as possible, but no later than one hour prior to their scheduled start time, unless local policy requires otherwise.
  • The call must come from the employee, unless emergency circumstances prevent the employee from doing so.
  • Text messaging is not an acceptable form of communication to the manager, nor is a call to anyone but the employee's manager or the manager on duty. The reason it is not acceptable is the manager needs to have a conversation with the employee and understand what is preventing them from coming to work. We also want the employee to understand our policy for attendance and how it negatively impacts the business. Failure to notify management by phone may be considered an unscheduled absence or tardiness, and may result in Corrective Action.
